From May 30th to June 6th, the 15th Annual Meeting of the ISO Technical Committee on Biotechnology (ISO/TC 276) was held in Lyon, France. The delegation of the China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment (CNAS) attended the meeting on site, held in-depth exchanges with standardization experts from various countries, and participated in the discussion and development/revision of international standards in areas including biobanking.

ISO/TC 276, the Biotechnology Committee, was established in 2013 and currently has 45 member countries and 16 observer member countries. It is responsible for standardization in the fields of terminology, biobanking, bioanalytical methods, and bioprocesses in biotechnology. The committee comprises five working groups and two subcommittees, among which Working Group 2 (WG2) on Biological Resources and Biobanking is primarily responsible for the development of international standards in the biobanking field. This meeting aimed to summarize the progress of international standard development by each working group and formulate new work plans. More than 70 representatives from various countries attended the meeting. The 44th meeting of WG2 was held concurrently, chaired by WG2 Secretary Ms. Lena Krieger, with more than 30 representatives from various countries in attendance.

During the meeting, each project team reported the progress of standards under development one by one, and the participating representatives conducted in-depth discussions on a number of international standards related to biobanking. The CNAS delegation fully participated in the review of multiple important standards, including "Biotechnology—Biobanking—General requirements for biobanking" and "Biotechnology—Biobanking—Implementation guide for ISO 20387". After thorough discussions, the meeting reached several important resolutions: ISO/DIS 20387 "Biotechnology—Biobanking—General requirements for biobanking" was agreed to proceed to the FDIS final stage vote; ISO/CD 22859 and ISO/CD 24651 were agreed to enter the Draft International Standard (DIS) voting stage; ISO/DIS 24952 was agreed to proceed to the FDIS final stage vote; ISO/WD 25630-1 "Biotechnology—Biobanking—General requirements for human intestinal organoids and human intestinal cancer organoids" was agreed to enter the CD committee consultation stage. The meeting also decided to initiate the revision of a number of existing standards to continuously improve the international standard system in the biobanking field.

As China national accreditation body, CNAS attaches great importance to international standardization work in the biobanking field and actively participates in various activities of ISO/TC 276. Through in-depth participation in international standard development, CNAS keeps abreast of the cutting-edge developments in international standardization in the biobanking field, which provides important reference for the construction and continuous improvement of China biobanking accreditation system. This helps promote the international alignment of China accreditation results and enhances the international credibility and influence of China biobanking accreditation.
